The Mildred Springs and Ella Springs Jones Scholarship Foundation has been established and named in memory of Mrs. Mildred Springs and in honor of her daughter, Ella Springs Jones.

A lifelong resident of Edgefield County, Mrs. Mildred Springs and her husband, the late James Leonard Springs, raised and educated six children during the segregated school system in Edgefield, South Carolina. Although circumstances only afforded her the opportunity to complete the sixth grade, Mrs. Springs always valued education and strongly believed education allows individuals to flourish and achieve their career and personal goals, which she instilled in her children, Ella, Lenny, Melvin, Brenda, Marvene and Elaine. Mrs. Springs was actively involved in community organizations such as the Helping Hands Club, the Holiday Savings Club, and the Johnston Seventh Day Adventist Church. Mrs. Springs loved flowers and working in her garden.

Ella Springs Jones graduated valedictorian of Edgefield County Colored High School and received a BS in Business Education and a Master of Education degree from South Carolina State University (SCSU). Inspired by her parents, Ella became an educator.
